Travel Insurance Policy
Domestic travel insurance is cover designed for any trip taken around Australia. You might think you don't need insurance because you have Medicare, but travel insurance for Australia can cover you for things that your medical healthcare doesn't. Even if you're not going too far, things can still go wrong on trips close to home.
This trip cost does not include personal travel or medical insurance.
All the things that can go wrong overseas can still happen at home.
If you've booked the tour and must head back home because a family member suddenly becomes ill, for example, Travel insurance cover may be available depending on who you use.
We insist that you take out a personal travel insurance policy and may request proof.
It is your responsibility to ensure suitable insurance cover is taken out prior to commencement of the trip.
Aussie Bike or Hike can assist with such cover if requested.
Detailed Daily Itinerary
DAY 1: Arrival to Cobar
Day 1 is all about meeting in the unique and historic mining town in Outback NSW , Cobar You’ll get the opportunity to meet your “Aussie Bike or Hike” guides and chew the fat with all the other riders in preparation for tomorrow’s start. Cobar is famed for its copper mining history and colourful locals and is the first taste of the outback. We have arranged that you can leave your car and trailer in Cobar. Please contact us to find out more about this.
(Accommodation Included)
DAY 2: Cobar to Bourke- 380 Kilometre
Leaving the Mining town of Cobar, we will head North West. Today will be about introducing you to the dirt and the area. We head for Bourke via some beautiful dirt roads and tarmac sections. Once a major 19th-century river port and trading post, today Bourke is a historic outback town on the banks of the Darling River. We will enjoy a nice meal at the pub and get ready for the next days adventures. (Accommodation Included)
DAY 3: Bourke to Cunnamulla - 380 Kilometre
Leaving the outback town of Bourke, we will head North West. We head for Cunnamulla If you trace your fingers along a map of the Matilda Way and Adventure Way, they’ll meet each other in Cunnamulla. Whether you’re heading from Melbourne to the Gulf or Brisbane to South Australia, this outback town will usually end up in your travel agenda. Perched on the banks of the Warrego River, you’ll find Cunnamulla 780km west of Brisbane and 140km north of the New South Wales border. if you’re wanting to spot a kangaroo on your outback trip, Cunnamulla is the place to be. With approximately 950 roos per person in Cunnamulla, this town takes home the title of ‘Outback Queensland’s largest roo population’.
Be wary while driving around Cunnamulla as these mates often hop, skip and jump near the roads, This town was once where bullock teams passed through and shearers spilled from bar windows; but today the small town is known for its natural outback beauty and outback hospitality. (Accommodation Included)
DAY 4: Cunnmulla to Quilpe – 300 Kilometre
Today we head further west. The bike will start showing signs of an outback ride with lots of dust and dirt. Here you’ll start to see a slight change in the colour of the dirt as we head to Quilpe.
Quilpie, the administrative centre of Quilpie shire, is about 860 km west of Brisbane and 320 km from the South Australian border.
It is thought that the name was derived from an Aboriginal word describing the stone curlew. Pastoral occupation in the Quilpie region began in the early 1860s:
Thargomindah station and Bulloo Downs, south of Quilpie, and Kyabra, west of Quilpie, in 1867. A teamsters' camp evolved on the Bulloo River, and a town was surveyed there two years before the arrival of the railway extension from Charleville in 1917. The site eventually settled on was a ridge on the western flood plain of the Bulloo, which provided proof against flooding. Quilpie became a railhead for the western wool industry. It’s safe to say we will be getting a taste of country towns. A lightyear away from the big cities of Sydney or Brisbane.
(Accommodation Included)
DAY 5: Quilpie to Windorah - 280 Kilometre
Today is a tarmac day.
It gives the change for the bikes to have a rest and it also allows us to travel to Eromanga.
Eromanga is famous out west its amazing find.
You'll meet cooper and Zac. Out in the desert was found a dinosaur bone that created history.
We will have a guided tour through the museum and learn about this amazing creature.
Along the route you’ll most likely see Kangaroos and Emu’s along the road. We are heading to Windorah. A town of just 80 people. Watch the sun go down along the plain from the veranda of the pub. This town is tiny. with a pub, petrol station and police station. Located in the heart of the Channel Country, Windorah boasts the beauty and majesty of Coopers Creek and the intrigue and colour of the red sandhill country which surround the town. In the heart of cattle country, the Cooper’s Creek is the only place where two rivers, the Thomson & Barcoo, join to form a creek. A haven for bird watching, fishing, water sports.
(Accommodation Included)
DAY 6: Windorah to Birdsville – 390 Kilometre.
One of the Bucket list items will be ticked off today. We are heading west, really west, so far west we will reach the edge of the Simpson Desert.
Some people are just so keen to make it to Birdsville but forget the epic ride getting there. Today is about dirt roads, filling up with food on the side of the road and swatting flies away from the face as we experience the outback.
We will stop at the famous "Betoota Hotel" which is worth the trip in its own right. With a population of just 1 person living in the town, stopping at this pub is on everyone's list.
They say the journey is all part of the adventure, and nothing rings truer of Queensland’s most western frontier, Birdsville.
This is the very territory Burke and Wills traversed, after all. Fast forward over 160 years and you’ll still feel a sense of unchartered territory and live exploration as you journey to the capital of Channel Country, Birdsville. In outback terms, Birdsville is as remote as they come, sitting on the edge of the Simpson Desert near corner country where the borders of Queensland, South Australia, and the Northern Territory all meet. (Accommodation Included)
DAY 7: Birdsville – Big Red- Rest Day
Todays is a rest day. It’s a day to look around Birdsville. It gives us a chance to sleep in and look over the bikes without a schedule to keep to. Once everyone is awake and had their caffeine fix, we will put on our gear and ride to the famous “Big Red” Sand dune. Of course, we will attempt to ride it and make it to the top. We have the full day off trying to get a group photo of everyone on the top of the hill. Bring a Gatorade and have your hands ready for a makeshift shovel. Once we have had our fun, we will ride back to Birdsville for a cold beer and a camel pie. (Accommodation Included)
DAY 8: Birdsville to Innamincka – 500k (The biggest day of the ride)
Lucky, we had the rest day yesterday! We have a big long ride today. Most of the ride will be dirt. This requires a big breakfast at the bakery as we won’t see any petrol stations or food stops along the route today unless a farmer wants to help out!
Its part of the outback. You need to be prepared for a big day in the saddle today. Our eventual destination is the township of Innamincka. Innamincka was made famous by the explorers, Burke and Wills, with their ill-fated exploration across central Australia.
Innamincka was the traditional home of the Yandrumandha, Dieri and Yarrawarrka Aborigines, it was then proclaimed a township in 1890. The first European to visit the area was Charles Sturt in 1845.
He was then followed by ,Burke and Wills, in 1861, who both died in the area, which is commemorated with a monument in Innamincka, which was erected in 1944. (Accommodation Included)
DAY 9: Innamincka to Tibooburra- 350 Kilometres
If you thought the ride yesterday was good, this is even better. That bucket list you have will have a lot of ticks today. Riding in sand – Tick. Riding the world-famous Strzelecki track – Tick. Have a drink in 3 states at the same time – Tick. The Strzelecki Track was created by cattle thief Harry Readford in 1870, while moving 1,000 cattle south from Queensland. While he was found guilty of stealing the cattle, the judge was so impressed by his determination and service to future pastoralists by creating the track that he couldn’t convict him. Along the track part of the Dingo Fence, built in the 1880s, crosses through the Strzelecki Desert. The 5,600-kilometre fence is one of the longest man-made structures in the world. We ride the Strzelecki track to our eventual destination. Tibooburra via Camerons Corner The journey to Cameron Corner is an ideal way to experience the real Outback. It will leave you breathless, passing through open plains where you can see for miles to sandy undulating land. Most well-known 'corners' of the Australian outback is Cameron Corner, where the borders of the states of New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland meet. We will stand at the plaque and have a toast to celebrate making it this far. A true achievement for all the riders making it to this point.
(Accommodation Included)
DAY 10: Tibooburra to White Cliffs - 395 Kilometres
If you think we are just heading home after experiencing Cameron Corner, then think again.
We are aiming for White Cliffs, but first we need to ride some fantastic dirt roads. You’ll know when you’re getting close to White Cliffs. The arid, almost lunar landscape, dotted with thousands of disused opal diggings, is like nothing else, and the area showcases a colour palette as splendid as any classic Australian outback scene in changing light.
You won’t forget White Cliffs in a hurry – it’s truly a one-off. White Cliffs houses Australia's oldest commercial opal field. White Cliffs is one of the only places in the world where white opal is found. It is also famous for its rare ‘pineapple’ opals, with distinctive spiky shapes.
We will be staying in the most unique of accommodation. The White Cliffs underground Motel. The famous White Cliffs Underground Motel, nestled into the side of a mesa hill (flat topped elevation), has been operating for over 20 years, attracting visitors from all over the world, who seek to experience “something distinctive and different”. Due to the searing heat of outback NSW, people sought refuge underground, and discovered a unique and magical style of living.
Underground, the motel remains a constant and comfortable 22 to 23 degrees, all year. Part of the holiday experience is the truly stunning landscape that surrounds the Motel. The sunsets and sunrises that can be seen
(Accommodation Included)
DAY 11: White Cliffs to Cobar - 400 Kilometres
Our Final day. At this point your bum will be sore from the constant riding.
The bike will be covered in dirt. Your clothes will be sweaty, but you will have made memories of a lifetime and had a real proper outback experience.
Our final day is to Cobar known as the “Copper City” This beautiful stretch of Outback NSW is home to ancient Aboriginal rock art, fascinating museums, gorgeous wetlands and historic architecture.
Learn about Cobar’s rich mining history and the sheep shearing, to finally cool off with a drink at a classic outback pub and give each other a hug for the great effort. At this point some riders will continue and ride to their desired destination, while other will choose to rest their weary heads in the many accommodation points in Cobar.
Accommodation is arranged customer’s discretion on this nigh and isn’t included in the tour. If you want to know where the “Aussie Bike or Hike” staff will be staying, just ask. (Accommodation NOT Included)
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need a motorcycle license for riding in NSW, Queensland and South Australia?
A:Yes you do. To be legally riding in Australia you are required to carry your local driving licence, which must cover the size of bike you will be riding
Q: What about Insurance?
A: YES! Domestic travel insurance and accident insurance is cover designed for any trip taken around Australia and we can advise you on Travel Insurance that covers you for cancellations due to Covid 19. You might think you don’t need insurance because you have Medicare, but travel insurance for Australia can cover you for things that your medical healthcare doesn’t. Even if you’re not going too far, things can still go wrong on trips close to home. Remember to get travel insurance that covers motorcycle riding. This is important.
Q: How do I carry my main luggage?
A: We will have a backup vehicle and trailer following the entire tour. This allows your luggage (1 x 55 litre soft bag) to go in the vehicle and not on the back of your bike!
Q: How big is the group?
A: We range groups from 10 to 15 people. That keeps it controllable and more personal on each tour.
Q: Will we be guided?
A: Yes Alex Cudlin ( 2x Motorcycle Endurance World Champion) and Shane Cudlin (licenced riding instructor and coach) will take care of you, via guiding and pointing you in the right direction. Both Alex and Shane are highly experienced motorcycle riders, trainers and tour guides.
The ride will be structured so that Alex Cudlin always leads the way. All customers follow Alex with the last rider of the group being known as the sweep. We will use a cornerman system and all riders will stay within the lead and the sweep rider.
At the far back will be the back up vehicle for any breakdowns.
Q: Will a mechanic be riding or driving with us?
A: We will have a qualified mechanic on this tour, but we do not have many spares. Remember you are bringing your own bike on this tour, so, it’s important you have it checked before departing. We can help tighten a bolt and plug a tyre, but crash damage or major mechanical problems will be something that you will need to deal with. You can pack some spare parts in our back-up vehicle during the tour. Make sure your bike is all ready to go before tour departure, and that you have a full tank of fuel when you arrive at our tour start.
Q: Is there any medical support?
A: Yes. Both Shane and Alex are First Aid qualified. The backup vehicle will carry a first aid kit to help with cuts or bruises. If major incidents occur we will call for ambulance.
Q: What riding kit should I wear?
A: We are crossing 3 states, and plenty of countryside. We all know how changeable the weather can be in Australia. Wet Weather Gear is a MUST!
Q: How much spending money will I need to bring with me?
A: This is completely up to you. We supply the route, hotels, guides, backup vehicle but you’ll be up for your own food, drinks, fuel and souvenirs. It’s always good to have some cash in your pocket in case card machines don’t work. Don’t rely on having a ATM at the outback fuel stops. Take cash!

Being some towns are so small, we only have a maximum of 15 riders allowed to take part in this ride. We have 5 single bed rooms along the entire route available at an extra cost. If you are a light sleeper, on your own, or a bad snorer, please book a single room so you don’t upset your roommate.
