Rider on an outback dirt track
The real Australian OutbackRed dirt to the horizon
If you've ever dreamed of riding the real Australian Outback, this is your chance. From Broken Hill we head west into the ancient Flinders Ranges, then north up the legendary Birdsville Track into Queensland.
After a rest day at Big Red, we push east to Innamincka and the Dig Tree, run the Strzelecki Track to Cameron Corner and finish back in the Silver City. Remote pubs, endless horizons, incredible sunsets, and every fuel stop, meal stop and motel already sorted. You just ride.
The route
Broken Hill to Broken Hill, a big outback loop through South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales.
Arrive Broken Hill
Meet your Aussie Bike or Hike guides and the crew in the Silver City. Settle into the Outback Broken Hill Resort for the welcome meal, your tour T-shirt and goodie bag.
Broken Hill → Hawker
Due west on a blend of dirt and tarmac to Hawker, on the doorstep of the Flinders Ranges. Dinner at the local pub.
Hawker → Marree
Deep into the Flinders Ranges past Wilpena Pound, swapping tar for dirt. Watch for roos, emus and even camels. We stop at Marree, where the Birdsville Track begins.
Marree → Birdsville
The big one: the legendary Birdsville Track, an old stock route from the 1800s. A long, dusty day of open horizons ends with a cold one at the Birdsville Hotel.
Birdsville · Big Red
Sleep in, check over the bike, then ride out to Big Red, the famous sand dune. Group photo on top, then back to town for a beer and a camel pie.
Birdsville → Innamincka
The biggest day of the ride. Breakfast at Betoota, the town with one resident, then on to Innamincka and the Burke and Wills Dig Tree.
Innamincka → Tibooburra
Tick off the Strzelecki Track, ride beside the Dingo Fence and toast three states at Cameron Corner, where NSW, SA and QLD meet. Last night together in Tibooburra.
Tibooburra → Broken Hill
Through Milparinka, lunch at the Packsaddle pub, then the first tarmac in days back to Broken Hill. Hugs, cheers and maybe a tear or two.
Just ride. We've got the rest.

Riders say it best
G5.0 ★★★★★ from 113 Google reviews“What an absolutely awesome tour! To get a true showing of Outback Australia. The roads Aussie Bike or Hike team chose for this trip and the places we saw along the way were awesome. Every motel was good, and Alex is a legend of a guide.”
“This tour is nothing short of phenomenal, flawlessly executed. It's my 4th tour with them, and it never fails to amaze… When a fellow rider faced a flat tyre, these pros swiftly handled it, ensuring the tour never missed a beat.”
Good questions
Do I bring my own bike?
Yes. This is a bring-your-own-bike tour. It needs to be well serviced, able to cover 300 km a day on dirt at the speed limit, and fitted with adventure (off-road) tyres.
How hard is the riding?
It's mostly outback dirt, with the longest day about 520 km (Birdsville to Innamincka). You need to be comfortable riding in the dirt. Day 5 in Birdsville is a rest day.
Where does it start and finish?
Broken Hill, NSW. We meet on 15 July 2027 and ride back into Broken Hill on 22 July 2027.
Can I leave my car and trailer in Broken Hill?
Yes. Local caravan parks let you leave a car and trailer on a site for about $30 a night. Book it directly with the park, or contact us and we'll point you in the right direction.
What happens with my luggage?
The support vehicle carries one 55 L soft bag per rider, so you ride light. Anything extra goes in your panniers.
What if my bike breaks down?
The support vehicle carries a toolbox for minor fixes and tows a trailer that can carry two bikes, plus a first aid kit and a Garmin inReach for emergencies.
Where do we stay?
Motels in remote outback towns, twin share, for 7 nights. No camping.
